Expedition Rainforest – an installation that engulfs the entire space

The goal of this year's Expedition is to collectively create a large junk art rainforest installation that will fill the entire room and draw the visitor into its story. It's not about everyone taking home one product. Together, we will build one huge rainforest that will gradually grow from the floor to the ceiling from day one.

The assignment is clearly defined, so participants do not have to struggle with coming up with their own concept. Everyone can find their role – some will create plants and trees, some will make animals or insects, while others will dive into lights, sounds, or interactive elements. One joint piece of work will be created, bringing together various fields and skills.

We will work mainly with recycled and found materials. We want to give a second life to plastics (not just PET bottles), but also to old tires, sheet metal, metal parts, or other things that would otherwise end up as waste. There will be a lot of hands-on creating – scissors, cutters, glue guns, wires, glues, and other common workshop tools. We are not afraid to experiment and test what can be made from materials that most people would throw away.

But the rainforest won't just be a static installation. We want to bring it to life with lights, sounds, projections, and ideally, interactive elements too. For example, when someone presses a button, a part of the installation lights up, a sound is heard, or a projection starts. That is why we are looking not only for people who enjoy artistic creation, but also for those who are drawn to the technical side of the project.

The course will also include a 3D printing workshop where you can design and print various details – such as insects, amphibians, or other creatures that will become part of the rainforest. If you enjoy electronics, programming, or coming up with smart solutions, there will be space to get involved in making the installation move or light up.

The course is designed for participants aged 16 and up. We gladly welcome students of both artistic and technical fields – graphic designers, designers, electricians, programmers, or anyone who has a desire to create. At the same time, it is open to people who want to relax after school or work on a collaborative project, meet new people, and try something they don't usually do. You don't need to know how to program or study at an art school – what's important is the desire to create and not being afraid to try new things.

The result will be not only the installation itself, but also the experience of working in a team on a large-scale project. We will photograph and document the entire installation, so students can take away materials suitable for their portfolio or, for example, for entrance exams.
